Two years ago, I (Miss Bhutan US 2014) partnered with Shiksha Nepal (a NGO) to buy and distribute library books to the school children of Bhutanese refugee camps in Nepal. Quick recap of our history, Bhutanese refugees are lhotsampas or better known as Nepali speaking Bhutanese who were unwillingly exiled from the country based on political reasons. They had no other option but to find refuge in Nepal. The earliest Bhutanese refugee camps existed in 1990 and continue to exist now. They are not granted Nepali citizenship despite meeting all the requirements and are not allowed to work, forcing them to live in extreme poverty. Although majority of the refugees have now resettled into multiple developed nations around the world, there is still a portion of the people who have stayed behind. Now, this is our time to give back.


I was using the same platform to ask you for help in making my project successful and I couldn't have done it without you. I went back in the summer of 2016 to visit the library and spend some time with the children. I spend my time in Sanischare camp getting feedback on how the books were able to help but most importantly, what could be done next.


I am here with my partner, Bimla Siwakoti (the current title winner of Miss Bhutan US 2016) to organize a trip back to Nepal. We, all three generations of Miss Bhutan US, are willing to spend our time and energy into giving back to our community. We will be teaching classes ranging from classroom subjects to extra curricular activities. We plan on working with the school children as well as a NGO that serves the women of the refugee camps. We will going with a strict itinerary that allows us to have maximum efficiency.


Now, here's where we need your help. These school children need supplies ranging from small items like pencils and pens to bigger things like classroom white boards. Their main complaint during the visit was that the glare from the sun makes it hard for them to see the board. So, an easy solution would be the white board with market supplies and erasers but there are two camps with multiple classrooms. We will be requiring supplies for extra curricular activities as well, such as soccer balls and speakers for example.


We couldn't have done the library book project without you and we are reaching out to you to help us one more time. This time, you will not only be helping the children but also us. This trip is allow us to reconnect with our roots. We would appreciate any help we can get and make the best out of the trip.

नमस्ते, म हु Miss Bhutan US २०१४. आज भन्दा दुइ वर्षा अघि मैले Shiksha Nepal नामक एक गैर सरकारी संस्थासंग सहकारी गरि भुटानी शरनाथी विद्यार्थी निम्ति पुष्टकलायालाई पुस्तक दिन सफल भएकी थिए | हाम्रो छोटो इतिहास स्मरण जरौना चाहन्छु | हामी भुटानी (Southern भुटानी), अर्को भासमा भन्ने हो भने नेपाली भाषी भुटानी जो राजनैतिक कारणले भुटान बाट जबर्जस्ति लखेटिएको र सरनाथी बनाइएका मान्छेहरु हौ | जुन शरण लिने अवस्था 1990 देखि सुरु भई आज सम्म पनि शरण लिने अवस्था चाडैछ | धेरै चरण नेपाल- भुटानको असफल बार्ता नेपालको अन्तरिक राजनैतिक अस्थिता, सरनार्थी प्रतिको उधशिनताले गर्दा भुटानी सरनार्थीहरु लाई नत नागरिकता दिन सक्यो नत सरनार्थीहरुलाई काम गर्ने अनुमति दिइयो जसकारण भुटानी सरणार्थीहरु चरम अभाव अवस्थामा बितौन बाध्य छन् |

धेरै जसो भुटानी सरणार्थीहरु विभिन्न तेस्रो सम्पन्न देशहरुमा पुर्नबास भइ सकेका छन् | तर पनि केहि भुटान जान पाउ भनि सरणार्थी सिविरमा बसी रहेका छन् | र उनीहरुलाई केहि सहयोग गर्न सके हाम्रो समाज प्रति उधारनिया काम हुने छ |

मैले येही मंच प्रयोग गरेर, तपैहरुको सहयोग पुस्तक वितरण कार्य सफल गरेकी थिए | येदि हजुरहरुको सयोग नभएको भए म हजुरहरु प्रति सधै आभारी छु |

म 2016 को गर्मि बिदामा पथरी सिविर पुगेको थिए र पुश्तकलय अबलोकन, सा-साना सरणार्थी विद्यार्थी भाई-बहिनिहरु संग समय बिताउन साथै उनीहरुको जिज्ञाशा र अवस्थालाई नजिकबाट बुझ्ने मौका पाएकी थिए | र मन्मंनै धेरै बिचारहरु आइ रहेको थियो | यी बाल- बालिकाहरुलाई केहि सहयोग गर्न सके हुन्थ्यो भन्ने | म USA फर्के पछि मेरो पुरानो project लाई निरंता दिने निर्णय गरे | जुन Project लाई सफल पर्न Miss भुटान US 2016 , Bimla Siwakoti र Miss Bhutan US को contestants संग सहकारी गरि हाम्रो सिप, समय, जान, स्रोत प्रयोग गर्ने सोचेका छौ | जस्तै विद्यार्थीहरुलाई पठन- पठनमा सहयोग, अतिरिन्त क्रियाकल्पमा सहभागी लगायत NGO (गैर सरकारी संस्था) जुन संस्थाले महिला तथा बाल-बालिका निमित काम गरि रहेको छ त्यो संस्था-संग पनि सहकारी गरि के कस्तो सहयोह गर्न सकिन्छ हामी पूर्ण तयार छौ |

यस Porject लाई सफल पर्नको लागि हजुरहरुको सहयोगी हातहरुको उपेक्च्या गरेका छौ | विद्यार्थीहरुलाई खाचो परेको चिज सानो-भन्दा सानो कलम देखि लिएर ठुलो "White board" को खाचो छ | मेरो भेटमा विद्यार्थीहरु को गुनासो के थियो भने घामले कालो पाटि टल्किने र देख्न गारो हुने जस्ता थिए | तेस्को उपाय भनेको सेतो पाटि (white board ) र marker नै हो जसको ink गाडा हुन्छ र सजिलै देखिन सकिन्छ | अन्य अतिरिन्त क्रियाकल्पको निमित football , volleyball , speaker , र बच्चाहरले खेल्ने कुराको खाचो परेको छ |

हलमा सरणार्थी सिविर दुइ ठाउमा राखिएको छ, जसमा धेरै classrooms हरु छन् ति दुइटा school मा | सबै विद्यार्थीहरुको समस्या भनेको प्राय उही माथि उलेखित समस्याहरु नै हुन् |

मेरो Project पुश्ताकालय कार्य सफल हुनमा यहाहरुको सहयोगको भूमिको आभार बयान गर्दै फेरि पनि हजुरहरुको समक्चा सयोगको आशा रख्दैचौ | जस कार्यले गरिब बाल बालिकालाई पनि हाम्रो समाजलाई सहयोग गर्नलाई ठुलो सयोग मिल्ने छ | हजुरहरुको सयोगको सधै आभारी हुने छौ |
