Kady's Fight

Donation protected

On Friday, September 4th, my 15-year-old niece, Kady, was brought into urgent care by her mom for what they thought would be a simple Covid test.  She had been experiencing symptoms, and had received "The Letter" from their high school that they had been on campus with someone who had tested positive so they assumed she was as well.  My sister insisted that they do a chest x-ray even though her lungs sounded clear, and thank God they did!

The x-ray revealed a mass in Kady's chest that obviously was not supposed to be there.  They immediately sent Kady to the ER to do a CT scan to see if they could determine what they were seeing.  The ER then transferred Kady to Cook Children's in Fort Worth due to a suspected lymphoma.  In a matter of less than 24 hours, Kady went from going to urgent care for a Covid test to being in surgery for a biopsy of a mass next to her midline/esophagus, bone marrow biopsies in both hips, and placing a port in her chest for future treatment.

The initial surgery did not go as expected, and the tumor turned out NOT to be a lymphoma. At this point, the doctors aren't sure WHAT we're dealing with. Kady remains at Cook Children's while we wait on the biopsy results. The doctors are trying to manage Kady's pain and oxygen levels, and are developing a treatment plan based on what they find out. We know that the tumor has to be removed, but we DON'T know what other battles Kady might be fighting on top of a more invasive and difficult surgery.

We have started a CaringBridge site as a centralized place to keep Kady's friends and family updated on her treatment, and to share the immediate and long-term needs of the family as we focus on her healing.  We are adding this GoFundMe page as an option for those of you who wish to help offset the financial costs of the growing medical bills and as an easier way to help spread the word about Kady's Fight.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support. I know it means the world to Christy, Kady, and the rest of our family.
