For those who don’t know, I had to make the decision to retire my current service dog. Sadie excelled at cardiac alert, but in the end was too nervy and not stable enough, temperament wise, to do to job. Few dogs DO have that temperament, and that’s okay! Unfortunately, it’s not safe for me to drive/work without a service dog (or without using a chair every day which I don’t want to do) as I don’t feel a fainting episode coming on until it’s too late. For obvious reasons, I want to find a prospective service dog puppy as soon as possible.
However, I just graduated and am still looking for a job. Since we are of course keeping Sadie, and can only have so many dogs, I need to make SURE that I get my next prospect from a REPUTABLE breeder that clears all health issues, and more importantly, has multi generations of STABLE dogs in their line, ideally including service and therapy dogs. This... isn’t cheap. And on my current salary of zero dollars, it’s impossible. But the longer I wait, the longer it will be until the prospect is actually ready to come to work with me, and the longer I will be resorting to wheelchair use and other equally difficult options to keep me healthy enough to work.
So, I’m hoping to fundraise the cost of the puppy plus 500 extra for the costs of driving to get the puppy, the puppy’s first vet visit etc.
