Kim Fischer Fight Against NETCancer
This campaign is for my sister, Kimberly. Kimber was diagnosed with a rare disease known as Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET cancer) in July of 2014.
Since diagnosis, Kim has received various treatments thus far, and while some have had some success, none have eliminated the cancer. Kim and my brother-in-law Eric recently visited a specialist by the name of Dr. Eric Liu in Colorado where they were given both good and bad news.
The good news is that Dr. Liu believes that surgery to remove the tumors is not only viable but is what he would recommend at this point in her treatment. What's also good news is Dr. Liu believes that there is a good possibility that they may be able to re-establish her digestive tract and reverse Kim's colostomy.
The bad news is that the disease has caused damage to two of Kimberly's heart valves, and these valves need to be replaced before the other surgeries can take place. Kim is currently scheduled for open heart surgery to replace the damaged valves on July 8th of this year.
The surgery will be taking place in Colorado, and the doctor has stated that Kim will have to stay nearby for at least a month, possibly longer. After recovery from the heart surgery, a special scan will be done to specifically identify tumor locations and sizes. From there, we're hoping to not only remove the tumors, but to reverse Kim's colostomy as well.
This Gofundme campaign is to help assist my sister and her family cover the expenses of lodging, any travel needed during the surgeries to and from Colorado for herself and her family, as well as additional medical expenses that may not be covered during treatment.
So many of you have been so supportive, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all. We are a close knit family and this has been difficult, especially for Kim. Those of you that know her know that she is a kind, gentle, and loving person.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
