Get Mr. Harned to Madrid!
Donation protected
My name is Charlie Harned and my dad, Sam Harned, is retiring after more than 30 years of teaching in the Clayton School District. He is an amazing teacher and an even better father.
I was recently awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to teach English in Madrid, Spain next year. Ever since my dad heard that I was selected for the grant, he has been reading as many books on the history of Spain that he can get his hands on. He is so excited for me to have this opportunity.
A number of people have been reaching out to his friends and family asking what he'd like as a retirement gift -- that's where you come in!
I would like to surprise my father and mother and thank them for all the sacrifices they’ve made on my behalf. (My father has never been on a plane, nor has he ever been out of the country!) I'm hoping to raise enough funds to help purchase two plane tickets -- one for my dad and one for my mom -- so that they can share with me a little Spanish history and culture. I can’t do this without your help.
I cannot put into words how much this would mean to my father. Like all teachers, he has loved working in Clayton and having a positive impact on his students. Whether you're a current or former student, a colleague, or a family friend, I really hope you consider leaving a kind word and / or making a donation. It would mean so much to me and especially to my dad -- the one and only Mr. Harned – to hear from former students, current students, and colleagues. Feel free to leave a message, anonymously or not, with your donation (anonymous or not). I'll compile all of these messages and present them to him in a huge card, hopefully, with two plane tickets, at his retirement party on July 1.
P.S. I would like this to be confidential . . . so please don’t mention anything to my father. Thank you SO much for your support.
