Send Leslie to Bulgaria!

Hello and thank you for visiting this page!

I was given an opportunity to join my professors from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) on a trip to Bulgaria. Where and what is in Bulgaria?! It's in Eastern Europe. We would be going to check-out a proposed new research site for our CSUDH students and work on a research project.

Bulgaria borders Greece and Turkey and many refugees pass through these borders on their way to Western Europe to resettle their lives. There are a number of refugee camps/centers located within Bulgarian borders and my proposed plan is to collect oral histories from the refugees to learn about their stories. If they are staying in Bulgaria, how are they rebuilding their lives?

The funds being raised are to help with the airfare and the food, lodging, transportation and translators during my stay.

I am graduating Friday, May 20, 2016 with my bachelor's in Anthropology (with honors!) and minoring in Political Science. My goal is to pursue a master's program in International Affairs in order to help others through public service or within the non-profit sector. I can safely say that I took advantage of my undergraduate experience, and I will mention a few things that I have done.

I am a Spring 2016 Undergraduate Student Research Fellow through CSUDH and was given a grant in order to conduct research on Central American migrant children. I am also finishing up my term as the International Students Representative of Associated Students, Inc. of CSUDH, and have been advocating on behalf of our 15,000 students and pushing issues such as food insecurity, student homelessness and student success. In March, our student government advocated in Sacremento so that legislators may provide our CSU system with more funding.

I am also a curatorial volunteer for the archaeology department at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. In May of 2016, I was awarded the "Outstanding Achievement" award for my contributions to protecting the Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican archaeological collections.

I was also a part of the Model United Nations of CSUDH and have competed at Harvard National Model United Nations earlier this year. We discussed issues regarding human rights, international politics and the environment, all issues that are of great interest to me. I work a part time job and do not have the funds to do this on my own, so I am asking for your help!

I will be eternally grateful for any donation made to me and I hope that I am able to raise this amount so that I may take this chance and this would have a significant impact in pursuing my hopes and dreams in international affairs. Every little bit helps and your support is very much appreciated.

Thank you very much! Please let me know if you have any questions.

All the best,
Leslie Vanessa Estrada.
