SUPPORT LEWIS COOPER'S PANCREATIC CANCER BATTLE

Please help Lewis in the final months of his life by securing a future for his wife Katalin and much adored 7-year old son Bence.

On the 28th of August at just 45 years of age Lewis was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is an insidious disease, it grows showing no signs or symptoms in the early stages. In May this year Lewis began to feel unwell, after enduring months of stomach pain, rapid weight loss and numerous trips to the doctor and A&E the pain had become unbearable. He was finally referred for a CT scan and endoscopy, a week later he received the devastating news, there was a tumour on his pancreas. Further tests revealed the extent of the cancer, it had spread to his lymph nodes dashing any hope he had of beating this disease.
On the 3rd of September Lewis began a brutal 6-month course of palliative chemotherapy, it is hoped this will give him another 3-6 months and relieve the immense pain and side effects the tumour is currently causing. Sadly, there are no guarantees with treatment which is why it is important to help Lewis now and prepare his family for a life without him.

For more than 10 years Lewis has lived and worked in the Aylesbury area, during this time he has successfully built up his own kitchen fitting business. Self-employment brings with it both rewards and challenges, this year has probably been one of the most challenging yet. Due to restrictions imposed by Covid-19 Katalin has been unable to work leaving Lewis the sole provider for his family. With his qualities of resourcefulness, hard work and self-motivation Lewis was able to navigate the difficulties of lockdown and continue supporting his family. Terminal cancer has now left him unable to work, Lewis is not only having to confront his own death but the anxiety of an uncertain future for Bence and Katalin.
In 2018 Lewis and Katalin bought a house in Decs, Hungary. It had always been their dream to return to Katalin's hometown but as so often happens life gets in the way when we make plans, and so, in January 2013 their son Bence was born. Lewis has an incredibly close bond with his son and devotes much of his time to raising his clever, curious and charmingly confident boy. One of the most compelling motivators for moving to Hungary was the opportunity it would afford Lewis to spend more time with Bence. He wanted to play an active role raising his son and his plans to start his own business teaching English would provide him with this opportunity.

Upon purchasing their Hungarian home Lewis and Katalin soon set to work renovating it as time and funds allowed. Impatient with progress Lewis took the difficult decision in January 2020 to relocate his family to Hungary to continue working on their home while he remained in the UK working hard sending funds to Katalin.

Nobody expects cancer at 45 years of age let alone terminal cancer and it has robbed Lewis of the opportunity to secure a life for his family. The money raised will give Lewis the brief chance to enjoy the home he worked so hard for now that he is too sick to work, more importantly it will give Bence precious time with his dad. It is how these remaining months are spent that will provide the memories and experiences he will need to draw upon when his dad is no longer here.
It is for this reason that I am seeking your help for our friend Lewis. Whether you know him thorough work as a colleague, enjoyed his company as a friend playing golf or drinking a pint at The Weavers (or The Plough or The Bull). Or through family and friends we can all agree Lewis has had an impact on us with his quick wit, brilliant sense of humour and ability to liven up any gathering through his charismatic charm and disarmingly direct personality. Donations would cover the cost of completing the kitchen and bathroom in his home to make it habitable, provide funds for further treatment costs in excess of what is provided by the NHS along with any care costs when he relocates to Hungary. Most importantly it will give Lewis and his family security and peace of mind as they deal with this life changing diagnosis.

Thank you for any support you can offer Lewis and his family, every donation is appreciated.
