24hr row for endED

Please read on and share!

For my coming 21st, I would like you to donate to EndED instead of giving gifts. In support of your donations, the ‘couplablokes’ team will row for 24hours!

It’s over a year now my sister has battled with the eating disorder (ED) Anorexia. A severely misunderstood MENTAL illness, ED devours individuals and disorientates families regardless of gender, age and ethnicity. Being a stigmatized condition, it is in desperate need for increased awareness in our society. One in four Australians believes that ‘if sufferers were stronger people, they wouldn’t be doing that to themselves’ which is a gross misunderstanding of the condition. Increasing awareness and developing more holistic treatments is exactly where endED step in.

EndED works after the traditional medical model of weight restoration by recognizing the complex genetic-environmental interactions to treat the root cause of the illness, not just the symptoms. Firsthand I know ED recovery is a very lonely and tough time. Your donations go towards fostering a community for people with ED to feel safe and begin the journey of recovery. It will also go to small, personalized and multidisciplinary teams that use evidence-based approaches to help people like my sister recover in who is currently receiving their care.

Fortunately, with your help, there is hope!

In support of this condition, the couplablokes Freshwater SLS boat team will row for 24hours. The 30th of January 2020 was the day my sister was admitted to the hospital for her 5 weeks stay. So, from noon on the 30th January to noon on the 30th January 2021, the four of us will row in shifts for EndED.  Laurie Shaw will be recording a live-stream and post a video of the row. This 24hr row will surely be a brutal and memorable day but is only a small tribute to the pain the condition inflicts on sufferers.

Every donation, big or small means the world to me and is greatly appreciated. To help the word get out, please share!
