On St. Patrick's Day, Jan was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and it progressed very quickly spreading to the lymphatic system and lungs. She entered Christopher House Hospice Austin in April for two weeks but very much wanted to be home surrounded by the people (and dogs) that she loves so much. She was stabilized enough and we were able to bring her home and make her as comfortable as possible. She has now entered the End of Life stage and we ask that you keep her in your thoughts. There is no way of knowing when exactly Jan will leave us, but her hospice staff feel that she is nearing the end of her journey.
Jan is an amazing woman and one of the most selfless and loving people to have walked this earth. She is a wife, mother, friend, caretaker, counselor, advocate, and animal lover to just name a few. She has dedicated her life to helping others and spreads joy wherever she goes. Jan has been the primary caregiver to her husband, Morris, for the last several years as his health has declined and he is disabled. Morris' sister, Melinda, also lives in the home and was cared for by Jan. Jason, the couple's only child, has moved into the home and is an around the clock caregiver. Jan does have Medicare coverage and they are covering her hospice care, but medical expenses have piled up from both Jan and Morris totaling over $8,000. It was also learned that Jan does not have life insurance as her policy was cancelled by Morris' previous employer when he was terminated from his long term disability status. As we've been doing our research and making arrangements, it's been shocking to learn the cost of a funeral.
We thank everyone who spent time reading a little about Jan. She is a remarkable woman and has made this world a better place. She will be greatly missed. In true Jan fashion, she doesnt want anyone to shed tears but rather celebrate and rejoice her life. The outpouring of support has been amazing thus far and everyone asks "how can we help?"which has led to the creation of this page. If you are able to help our family with a donation, it is greatly appreciated and will go to paying for cremation expenses, medical expenses, and directly helping the family. If you are local and would like to prepare a meal, grocery shop, or help around the house or yard please leave a comment and we can coordinate. If you would please, share this via email or social media we would be grateful. Jan and Morris have lived in several states and touched so many lives we would like to try and reach anyone they may have lost contact with over the years. Above all else, we appreciate your prayers and well wishes. Regardless if you choose to donate, please share a story or memory about Jan or the family below so we can joyfully remember her in this time of sorrow. She enjoys hearing stories and seeing emails/notes from friends when she is alert and able. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
