Charlie’s Chance
Donation protected
It’s no secret to everyone that Charlie lives an adventurous life! So it was no surprise to me when he came running to me at high-speed after the electric fence gave him a kiss on the nose! What was a surprise to me, was a small blister that had developed over the course of 2 weeks.
After multiple visits to the Botetourt Veterinary Hospital and one surgery later, my sweet Charlie was diagnosed with Spindle Cell Sarcoma on July 27th, 2020.. one day after his 6th birthday.
Spindle Cell Sarcoma or soft tissue sarcoma originates from the connective tissues beneath the skin. Just from what veterinarians are able to see without CT scans, is that Charlie’s tumor is an aggressive cluster of tumors that appear to be below his nose, in his lip and growing along the right side of his snout.
A prediction from Charlie’s local veterinarian suggested that surgery would not be an option for Charlie due to the location of the tumors. This type of cancer can possibly be maintained through chemotherapy (in some cases) but radiation is the preferred treatment.
Charlie has been referred to NC State University Oncology and is scheduled for his first appointment on August 31 at 10:30 am. This appointment will include an initial consultation ($235), diagnostic tests to include x-rays ($1000) and CT scans ($1500+). The estimates that I received aren’t even the tip of the iceberg of what actual treatment will cost.
While I will not be able to decide which treatment would be best for Charlie until we know exactly where the tumors are, I still want to give him a fighting chance. Although CT scans and Xrays are expensive, this will not only help decide the best treatment option for Charlie but it will also help veterinarians learn more about the disease to help others in the future.
If there happen to be any funds that are not used for Charlie’s appointment or treatment, the funds will be donated to local animal shelters in Charlie’s honor.
Charlie is such a kind soul and such a light in the life of any person he meets (or barks at while on his car ride)! We both thank each and every one of you for your kindness and prayers! With your help, Charlie is going to kick some cancer butt!
