It is with great sadness to say that my dad, Saul Hernandez Diaz suffered a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest on Saturday August 15, 2020. He was resuscitated after ten minutes or more and survived. His body was then cooled to 32 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours so that they could reduce the damage to his brain. After 24hrs the doctors warmed up his body but sadly he wasn’t showing any signs that he was there. Then, after three days, he finally opened his eyes. Due to the COVID pandemic, no one was allowed to be by his side. Instead we used zoom every single day. It seemed as though he could hear us and we talked to him to help stimulate his brain. He cried and looked as though he was in great pain. We prayed for him, played music for him, and sang to him. We told him stories and old memories. I fell asleep on the zoom video call nearly every night he was there. On August 25, 2020 around 5:45pm he passed away. This is all so hard for our family. Just last month his brother, my uncle, passed away too. The funeral expenses are nearly $12,000 including the expenses in México. My dads wishes were to be buried in Mexico with his parents. We are hoping you can help us raise the money to send his body and fulfill his wishes. My dad was a great man. He has 8 kids. He was a great father to us. Before he and my mom split up, we ate breakfast lunch and dinner together every single day. We went to church every weekend and spent those weekends doing family activities like going to parks and beaches. He worked on construction, electrician, plumbing, masonry. He could build a house from the ground up all on his own. He gave us allowance every weekend. Helped us with homework, pushed for education. Gave us good advice. Gave us love. A lot of love. He was definitely a blessing for me and my brothers and sisters. I’m sad that his three little ones will never know him the way we knew him. Our Dad.
