Riley’s Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, this is Riley our sweet, lovable, and miraculous 7 year old german shepherd. The last weekend of July, she suddenly lost function of her hind legs and had to be taken to the vet ER. She was diagnosed with a rare fungal infection called Aspergillosis that has been slowly eating away at her spine, kidneys, and eye. We were told by many vets to consider euthanasia, as fungal diseases are very, very difficult to treat. All studies on Aspergillosis report poor prognosis for dogs (and humans). But with hope, love, an amazing team at UCD vet hospital, and with support of friends and family, Riley has been recovering against all odds!
Unfortunately the fungus found a home in her left eye causing glaucoma (painful pressure) and blindness. The best treatment was surgical removal of the eye. She has been getting a variety of IV antifungals daily, receiving physical therapy, and getting extra food/water through a feeding tube. She is now relearning to walk and requires a wheel chair to get around.
Her vet bills have far exceed what our limited pet insurance was able to provide for us. We would love and appreciate any extra support you might be able to donate to Riley’s vet bills and further costs of future treatments/supplies.
all our love,
Riley, Anthony, and Elora ❤️
