Destiny is a committed and passionate Black activist in the Portland community. Recently, she has spent much of her waking hours speaking and participating at BLM events across town to lend her powerful voice to one of the largest civil rights movements in history. Destiny strives to elevate Black voices as she uses her own voice to speak out for a just and equitable future for Black lives. She is also deeply committed to forging a strong Indigenous and Black alliance. Destiny is the lead organizer of the Kid-Centered March for Black Lives, a weekly march that focuses on youth engagement, education, and amplifying Black voices. These marches have been a powerful example of community coming together lovingly and non-violently to speak out for Black lives. Her thoughtful, compassionate dedication to these marches has been transformative for our community. To attend the “Get Off Our Necks” Commitment March on Washington would be a dream realized for Destiny. It will be a day of action that will demonstrate the commitment to fighting to radically reform policing and criminal justice. The Commitment March will take place on August 28th 2020 — the 57th anniversary of the historical March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. It is incredibly important for Destiny to bring her children with her. Her 13 year old daughter Isabelle says "it would be amazing if Martin Luther King Jr was still alive to give a speech today. It will be empowering to see where he once spoke and stand where he once stood." Isabelle’s twin Isaiah notes “When I was little my mom would have us say parts of the I Have A Dream speech. It will be amazing to be in the place that MLK said, ‘Free at last! Free at last!’” And her 16 year old Nehalem simply emphasizes wanting to attend because “my mom thinks it's important for me to go."
