Let’s help Katie McCarthy!

My Mother’s home and property in Lexington, VA was devastated last night by heavy rains and severe flooding. The flood waters reached between 18”-24” inside the house. Most of the belongings and furniture in the house were strewn all over the house. There is currently 1” of mud covering the floors all over the house. Belongings outside the house were damaged and discovered hundreds of feet away, or still missing. Gardens are completely destroyed and fences torn up. Anyone who knows Katie knows that she is very hardworking, frugal, and very rarely asks for help. Insurance has been notified, and we do not know whether the damage to the house can be mitigated, or whether the building will be a total loss. My Mother is 72 years old and still working full time as a nurse, even amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This disaster has put a huge financial burden on my Mother. She had plans to finally retire within the year, and is now unsure if that’s possible. She could really use some help from the central Virginia community that she has been a part of for the past 19 years. My Mother raised my brother and I as a single mother and is the most honest and selfless person I know. Please consider contributing during my Mom’s time of need.
