On Tuesday June 2, 2020 our world was rocked once more.  Scott had been experiencing some stomach upset and diarrhea plus occasionally looking yellow.   I got him to finally go into the Dr who ordered an emergency ct scan of his chest, stomach and pelvis areas along with a series of blood tests.   The CT was ran within 2 hours and within an hour our Dr called and confirmed our suspicions CANCER!   Liver cancer!
As of today we don’t know much.   This next week he will have a CoVid test first and as long as that comes back negative which it should no problem, he will go in for a biopsy and several other tests.    Please keep Scott in your prayers this is gonna be a huge battle for him.   He does get pretty tired right now and energy to do things doesn’t last long I will try to keep this page updated as much as possible Thought this would be easier then calling everyone
Thank you for your prayers -  Scott and Beth

***update as of 8-24-2020 Scott's cancer now has a name - Interhepatic cholangiocarcinoma. It’s an extremely rare but fast and aggressive growing cancer. Scott's cancer is inoperable and a transplant is not an option either. His only course of treatments is chemo and radiation. This is very costly and yes we have insurance but that doesn’t cover everything. Over the last two weeks I have spoken with MD Anderson in Houston, Cancer treatment centers of America and Mayo Clinic - all who say he would be a good candidate for them in some type of treatment but after this first round of chemo is through. So I am hoping to take him in November. Scott and I hate to ask for any kind of help. But in this case we feel we have no choice. Medical bills are piling up and now with the expense to get him to Houston or Chicago in the near future - we could use some help. We appreciate and love all of you - and thank you for your generosity.
Even if you can't help financially - Anything is appreciated.  Beth has needed some extra help around the house - and has started a calendar on the caring bridge page for things she needs help with

**Update as of 9/1/-2020 - Scott continues on treatments but was hospitalized again for 4 days due to 2 infections caused by the cancer and radiation.  He was put on 3 very strong IV antibiotics and then went home after 4 days continuing on antibiotics.  So far they are working.  He continues to get nausea, and throwing up.   I have set up a Caring Bridge page to keep everyone updated.

***update. 10/27/2020
scott has been in the hospital again for the last 8 days and will be here for a few more.   He will be sent home on home health, and needing medical equipment and supplies plus also making slight modifications to the house.   He now has a permanent drain and drain bag that will need to be closely monitored.    Learning lots on how to be a nurse but there is also a financial strain in all of this.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for you prayers and generosity ~
Beth and Scott

**Update  9/24/2021
Hello
We just got home and my worst fears were confirmed.
The tumors have not only  grown - yes , but there are many new ones in the top lobes of both sides of the liver.   The big tumor surrounding the main vein continues to compress the blood supply and his tumor markers have more than tripled in the last month.  He does have fluid build up in the belly.    And a little in both lungs.  But not to bad yet.  His blood pressure and oxygen was ok today so nothing is needed for that yet.   The walker has come out of the bedroom and we are needing to get him set up with the wheelchair.   Our wonderful friends Jan and Carl are setting us up with one.
We discussed other possible trials, those that he matches with, the doctor feels they will just make him more sick and worse side effects and spend more time in the hospital - only to give him a couple extra weeks or months.
He has taken Scott off his medications except the ones to make him comfortable - and hospice has been ordered.    We both knew this was coming but yet it’s still just a nightmare I can’t seem to wake up from.   The referral for hospice has already been ordered.  They have increased his pain meds again as he was pretty miserable again this morning
I’m just getting Scott into the shower and getting pain meds in him again.
When we left the doctors office - all Scott wanted was a chocolate donut!    So we went to voodoo of course.  He was able to eat a little bit.   He has lost weight again compared to just 3 weeks ago.
But we are home - and he is trying to get a problem taken Care of for one of his drivers that’s stuck.
I know I’m rambling, I feel like I’m lost, I want to cry, scream and get in the car and just drive.   But I made a promise to my love - no crying.  I must stay strong.   I will be here every day holding you tight - never ever letting go!!
I love you so so much my darling Scott always!
We are going to go spend some time together now. Much love to you all
Beth
