To all my friends:
Well, it does take a village so I am asking for help from our village! I have been Sophia Bowles' Big Sister since she was 15, and have admired her tenacity for years. Her goal is to eventually become a lawyer, with the shorter goal of becoming a paralegal.
Sophia managed to graduate Reynolds High School, where she had been a straight-A student and ROTC cadet of the year, even with two babies. With a third baby and help from the babies' dad, AR, Sophia managed to work part-time, take one semester in the paralegal program at Forsyth Tech, buy a car, and move into a house with AR and the children. But it is a continual financial struggle.
We have just enrolled her for the Fall semester, applying for financial aid, and what I am asking for is your support in helping Sophia have that cushion that can cover any of those unexpected bills that suddenly arise (for example, that hybrid car battery we just had to buy to keep AR and Sophia getting to work). When you are paddling hard, any extra load can sink you.
We would so appreciate any support you can give her.
