We are 24 young Malagasy trapped in Cambodia. We left our country full of hope, seeking work, wanting to support our families and rebuild our lives. But upon our arrival, we were trapped. We were promised dignified work in Cambodia, yet that dream quickly turned into a nightmare.
From the moment we arrived, our passports were confiscated. We were locked up and forced to work like slaves. Our days stretched beyond 12 hours, with barely enough to eat, no medical care, and no rest. When we refused to defraud innocent people as they demanded, we were abused. Some of us were beaten, locked in cold rooms, and denied food. We endured three months of horror, reduced to silence.
By the grace of God, and thanks to the intervention of the International Organization for Migration, we were finally freed. But we were not allowed to recover all of our belongings when we left the company. We lost everything: our diplomas, our belongings, our wages, even our clothes. Today, we are surviving in the Siem Reap Immigration Police station. Twenty-four of us sleep in a small, unsanitary space, without hygiene, without medicine, and eat only twice a day. Some of us are already gravely ill.
All administrative procedures have been completed: the only thing left is our repatriation. But we are blocked because we do not have the money for our tickets. Our families, who are also poor, cannot help.
Time is running out: the police have warned us that we may be moved to a harsher cell. We live in constant fear and are close to losing hope. Yet we cling on, believing that a compassionate hand can save us. ♥️
We beg you: help us return home. We only want to be reunited with our families and rebuild our lives. Do not let our youth be destroyed in this despair. You are our only hope.
