We suspect that I have a rare form of endometriosis that can be found on the diaphragm or on other organs in the thoracic cavity. It is very difficult to see these lesions and often has to be seen during a video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) procedure. The VATS procedure is more invasive and I will have a longer recovery time needing friends and family to help assist me after the surgery.
Because of the possibility of the disease being on different organs, my doctor is putting a team of surgeons together so that each expert if needed can help to extract the disease. I have had several scans but the lesions from endometriosis often times is unseen. Laparoscopic and the VATS procedure are the only way for them to find and excise the disease.
We are unsure of the cost because it depends on many factors including how many hours the procedure will be. It is estimated to be between $10,000 and $20,000. This would be for one surgery or in case we may need to do two separate surgeries.
I have fiercely fought and advocated for my care for years and finally have the right specialist on my side. I also have great confidence that I will recover and thrive after my procedure. With a long road to recovery ahead we will also endure growing medical expenses as well as rehabilitation and medication costs to cover. My surgery will not be set for another three to four months because I am still recovering from my past surgery in June.
I am not one to ask for money and it has been a struggle for my husband Rob and I to do so. This disease has taken over my life and often times been debilitating. It has not stopped me from fighting or finding solutions and Rob and I will not give up. We humbly ask for your assistance in the medical cost to help give me a better quality of life and a thriving chance for our future family.
There is no cure for endometriosis and much is theorized about its cause and development. I knew very little about the disease until I was diagnosed and many women are affected (176 million) or one in ten.
