Hi, my name is Michał. I’m 24 years old, and I study architecture in Los Angeles at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, the best architecture school in the world. I’m the only European in my program.

I come from a small village called Niedźwiedź in Poland, with only about 400 inhabitants. I’ve always dreamed big, even though some people told me to “come back down to earth Michał.”

At 18, I moved to London on my own, totally different world, culture, and lifestyle. I studied during the day and worked manually at night on construction sites, roofs, factories, in restaurants as a waiter and as a bartender, hotels, shops, and many more. In total, I held more than 60 different jobs over the course of four years in order to earn my bachelor’s degree in architecture.

I bought my ticket to London thanks to the Prime Minister’s Scholarship, which I received for having the highest GPA (5.27) in my technical school, and that’s where everything began.

My journey to Los Angeles was made possible thanks to the Scholarship for the Most Talented Poles from the Rafał Brzoska Foundation, which covered my tuition and basic living costs for the first year of study.

I’ve also led free drawing workshops for children from orphanages and helped younger students create their portfolios. In this way, more than 150 participants have developed their skills and passion for architecture under my guidance.

Why a fundraiser?

For my first year, I raised, gathered, and paid $86,015. Now I need $30 305 USD for the cost of tuition for the next year so I can finish my studies.
