Support a LE Family in Need at Christmas

Donation protected
The New York Law Enforcement Assistance Program (NYLEAP) is pleased to sponsor the Support a Law Enforcement Family in Need for Christmas fundraiser.  Donated funds will be divided equally per family. Families submit a gift wish list for each child and any remaining funds after the gifts are purchased will be provided as a cash gift.

We need your help to make this mission a success!  Your donation will provide a little bit of Christmas spirit and hope to our fellow law enforcement families who are experiencing a heartbreaking tragedy.  Thank you for showing them that we support them, care about them and that they are not alone.

Please take a few minutes to read about these families in need and then make your donation.

Thank you for your generosity and prayers for these families.  The fundraiser ends December 7.

Brooke Perkins, Investigator - Troop A NYSP Machias BCI
Brooke has been courageously battling a breast cancer diagnosis since December 2017.  Brooke fought hard to continue to work during her battle with cancer up until January of 2020.  Sadly, the cancer has metastasized throughout her body and the situation has become terminal.   After exhausting her leave this past June, Brooke is now enrolled in the leave donation program.  Brooke’s family has been through a lot and it appears that she only has a few months to live.  Anything that can be done to help her children, 7-year-old Jack and 5-year-old Oakley, have a more enjoyable holiday season would be greatly appreciated by her colleagues, family and friends.

William "Bomber" Lashomb, Detective - Syracuse Police Department
William "Bomber" Lashomb passed away on October 11, 2020, almost three weeks after he was found stricken with carbon monoxide poisoning on a boat on the Erie Canal. Billy was a decorated 13-year veteranof the Syracuse Police Department and received a number of commendations, including the department's highest award.  He served with distinction in the US Army, including having served in Iraq.  He was a hero to many people, especially his two boys, 9-year-old Billy and 6-year-old Mason.

Mike Cachioli, Correction Officer - Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office
Mike Cachioli is a heart replacement recipient. Mike has worked at the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer since 1998. He has served as an FTO, is on the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT), is a general topic and taser instructor. In October 2019, Mike went into heart failure. After several weeks in the hospital he was fortunate enough to undergo the lifesaving procedure of a heart transplant. Mike is doing well but has a long road ahead of him. He cannot return to work because his immune system is compromised because of anti-rejection medications. His situation was compounded by Covid-19 pandemic.  He currently has no vacation or sick time left. Officers have donated sick time for the last couple of months so Mike can keep his health insurance. He is currently home with his wife Stacie and two daughters 14-year-old Amelia and 11-year-old Gianna.
