The residents of the Copper Penny South Channel are raising funds to have their channel dredged. Their channel will not be helped by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Currently, the bid is $30 per lake frontage which comes up to a total of $80,000. It is a hardship for the many elderly and those experiencing major health issues. All monies will be deposited in the Copper Penny South Channel Project account at The Peoples National Bank, 14806 Zion Rd. Thornville, OH, 43076.
As you can see when ODNR drained down Buckeye Lake, we lost the water in our channel and gained vegetation. As the vegetation dies in the winter, it adds to the layer of silt in the bottom of the channel. It will reduce the amount of water that the channel will hold, making it more shallow and difficult to navigate. Dredging will create more fishing and boating opportunities for all.
The residents are doing all they can to raise funds! Currently, a Community Yard Sale, a car show, and a duck race are in the works! All the monies collected will go toward this project. We thank you for generosity in helping preserve a section of Buckeye Lake.
