My family went through an unspeakable tragedy and in one single day my entire world turned upside down. At just 19 yearls old my sister found herself emotionally and  financially responsible for my brothers on her own. To our shock my parents were suddenly arrested and taken away, my mom for something she had no clue she was involved in. While the pain of losing our lives, all of our worldly belongings and the injustice that occured for us still stings, things became easier. My mom is on supervision fighting to rebuild a life for us, she has worked endlessly to heal our wounds and help care for us in a whole new way. My older brother works full time at Urban Pi, and has begun an independent life after the trauma. My best friend and I started our own filming business, we film football games during the high school and Pop Warner season and charge for the films. We have begun to deveolop a really solid reputation, one that I am really proud of. I try to help where I can but my mom insists I save my money, I also plan to find a part-time job after school or on the weekends so I can help pay for stuff  around the house. My mom teaches at National University at night, but she only works there when she is offered a class because she is only part-time staff at the moment. She also writes for a company called Mind Movies where is she able to use her education in psychology to make a positive impact. This opprotunity to join this well respected program and go to Harvard Medical School during the summer means so much! My family has taught me that while tragedy happens, WE are in charge of our own path and what happens to us next.
