I'm proud to have been elected as a pledged delegate for Bernie Sanders from New York's 20th congressional district. I'm honored that the voters of my district believe in me enough to represent them at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in July.
But it's expensive. The hotel for the NYS delegation is over $400 a night (I'll be rooming with someone). Plus gas getting there and meals all week long. If you can help, I would be so grateful.
About me...
I have to admit: For a while I was becoming increasingly distanced from the politics that shape our world. Not because I didn't care, but because I felt like speaking up in today's politics is a lot like shouting into a void: our elected officials just weren't listening. I felt bad for giving up on effecting change, but I believed our leaders had given up on us, that they had given us up.
Then Bernie.
I believe in Bernie because he believes in us. And I am committed to fighting for him because he's fighting for us. To return our government to one of democracy rather than oligarchy and corporate rule. To ensure that we, the wealthiest nation in the world, guarantee all people in our great country the basic rights of a civilized nation like healthcare, education, and a living wage. So all people can retire with dignity and security, to be able to be with one's family, to have autonomy over our lives and bodies, to protect our world for our children and grandchildren, to know that our justice system works for us, not against us.
I'm married and have two beautiful young children. I run my own small business, and my husband has a good job. By all accounts, we should be doing okay financially, but making ends meet each month just seems to be getting harder and harder. But I know we're better off than many, and that breaks my heart knowing what so many others contend with day in and day out, what they go without, what they sacrifice just to stay afloat. And many are sinking. I'm outraged that our elected officials remain largely indifferent to the struggles that millions of Americans face every day. And I'm terrified for my own children as we go further and further down this path of massive wealth redistribution to the rich.
I will not give up until I know we are leaving a better future for our children and grandchildren.
