Mend a Broken Heart!

On December 6th, 2017, Lou was admitted to Upstate University Hospital and diagnosed with Heart Failure related to a faulty valve, or regurgitation. Lou spent 35 days in the hospital. Because he developed sepsis, it was preferable that he remain hospitalized for the duration of his treatment. He was discharged on January 9th, 2018. Lou, an EMT with NAVA Ambulance, was unable to work throughout all of this. The price of his 35 day hospitalization cost over $170,000.
Follow up revealed his heart valve would need to be repaired. In order to do this, Lou needed open heart surgery, which included being placed on a bypass machine. Cardiac surgery was performed at Rochester General on February 20th.
Louie can expect to be out of work for at least another 12 weeks while his breastbone and heart heal. Lou’s friends know he will attempt to get back to work and on the ambulance ASAP!
Lou became a registered nurse in 1999 and NYS paramedic in 2004. For 19 years Louie has been helping others in his community. It’s been his passion. He has worked in the Emergency Department, ICU, on the ambulance, and even up in helicopters.
In addition to this major operation, Jon and Lou announced to their family & friends that they became engaged, after being together for almost 15 years! They have planned a September 2018 wedding ceremony.
Jon and Lou appreciate any help that can be offered. Donations will help with day to day bills and medical costs incurred throughout this ordeal. Please share this link on your Facebook Timeline!
