Help Timber become a Service Animal
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I am raising money to have my dog trained as a service animal. Timber is a 5 month old Australia Sheprd boy who will become my Diabetic Alert Dog this winter once he has gone through his training. I am asking for your help because the training cost $10,000 plus additional costs to get him prepared and transported to Las Vegas to participate.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 14 years old, almost 7 years ago now. And it has been a real struggle since then. Type 1 Diabetes isn’t just about eating well and exercising a lot. It is many sleepless nights, the fear of losing your life to the disease, the fight to eat when you're not hungry, the everyday struggle to willingly stab yourself with a needle just so you can survive. It’s the sadness that fills your peers every time they are unable to understand, and the tears at times because you are mentally strong but physically weak. Diabetes in often accounts has taken over my life and it has been challenging to not allow it to become all I am rather then apart of who I am while still staying healthy and safe at the same time.
The technology is rapidly developing but in quite a few instances it has failed me. Living in fear of not being able to catch a low or worse has brought me to decide an alternative is necessary. Therefore, Timber will be trained as a diabetic alert dog, an assistance dog trained to detect (smell) high or low levels of blood sugar and alert me to any dangerous changes in blood glucose levels. This training is very length and expensive and I appreciate all the support you can offer.
Thank you so much,
Katrin
