My name is Olivia and I'm raising money to help my brother, Matthew. Matthew is a cancer survivor who is currently in remission. However, in the last five years Matthew has developed and dealt with several medical issues that were caused by the amount of chemo and radiation he had to his face during his treatment. This is why I am starting this page.

Matthew's journey started 6 years ago in 2009. He was diagnosed at age 17 with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. He went through six rounds of two types of chemotherapy and 7 weeks of radiation everyday. Thankfully, because of his age he had a good prognosis and won his battle with cancer. However, years later, he is still dealing with the after effects of his treatments. Matthew’s salivary glands were effected which causes severe dry mouth and he has minimal blood flow to his jaw from radiation so his teeth can not be extracted.

Over the past several years he has had many root canals and cavities filled for these reasons. In the last few weeks, Matthew has developed severe infections in his mouth from these dental issues. He has become very swollen with a lot of pain. He is on antibiotics and needs about 8-10 visits to the dental surgeon in order to correct the problems that have developed. A specialist, who has experience with people who have had cancer with these specific complications, is required to do these procedures and he does not take insurance. Matthews medical bills are estimated to cost up to $40,000 in the next six months. I love my brother more than anyone in this world and all I want is for him to be healthy.
