Hello, Go Fund Me supporters!
My name is Chris Antes. I have spent the past 30+ years working in the culinary world with a passion for cooking and food and a dream to settle in San Diego, CA which has become a reality. I got started in local restaurants in the Cleveland area and expanded to many states and even New Zealand over the years. I worked my way up from prep cook to executive chef, eventually taking on Personal Chef roles including a former NBA player and family and then a wonderful couple in the San Diego where I was given carte blanche. The only request was to never make the same thing twice. This resulted in the creation of over 3,000 amazing dishes. After that I was able to set a goal of getting some property and having my own farm to table concept, educating children and adults about great food and nutrition. I was on my way to living my dream.
But then things took a turn…
I never thought I would get to this point in my life, but after exhausting all resources and options, I have nowhere else to turn and I hope you might be able to help me get back on my feet. Here is why I am in need of assistance.
About a year ago, I began experiencing pain on the left side of my abdomen. At first, I thought it was a hernia, as I have had two hernia operations in the past. The pain has continued to worsen and is debilitating. This has resulted in me not being able to work since July 12, 2015.
Doctors have not been able to agree on a diagnosis and I have been shuffled around through the system, not getting many answers and not getting the relief from the pain that I so desperately seek. I recently switched primary care doctors in hope that a new doctor would be able to offer a different perspective and some hope for finding the core issue. I am currently waiting to see a general surgeon on June 23rd (the earliest appointment I could get) and that may result in exploratory surgery.
My landlord was very kind to me over this past year; however, as my health and financial situation deteriorated, I fell 2 ½ months behind on rent and was asked to vacate my apartment. I was living in my car May 5th-12th and I have been able to stay on a ranch (an hours’ drive from my doctors) for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the owners are selling that property, so my time there is coming to an end and I will once again be homeless, living out of my car.
As much as I would love to be working right now, the abdominal pain makes it near impossible. The pain restricts my ability to stand up straight, walk, or be on my feet for any length of time. I was able to get some disability assistance early on, but that was cut off in March 2016. I have applied for Social Security disability, but that is a very slow process.
I am not ready to give up on San Diego. I have so many hopes and dreams here that I am determined to see come to fruition. Unfortunately, this health issue has set me back a bit and I just need some help getting through the next few months.
I am looking to raise $6,500 because as much as I love it here in San Diego, I need to get back to my home town of Cleveland, Ohio to help with my medical needs. I plan to use the funds for the following: 1) The majority will be used toward housing for the next few months. 2) My car needs some work and I need to have a reliable vehicle to get not only get me across the country but then get me around to doctor appointments and such. 3) Anything left over will be used for medical supplements. I have a few ongoing health issues that I need to treat regularly. I take natural supplements for blood thinning, as well as diabetes. I am getting some assistance but it averages out to about $6/day and does not cover all of the dietary supplements.
I wish more than anything I could get back to working, doing what I love, and focusing on goals but I just am not able to do it at this time. Any help from you via Go Fund Me will allow me to get a roof over my head and my feet back on the ground to get by for the next couple months as I await a diagnosis for my health as well as treatment.
It would mean so very much to me if you can help. No amount is too small.
