When my dad was 29 he was diagnosed with heart failure and had a defibrillator put in. The doctors put him on permanent disability and He was unable to work anymore. In 2016 he started getting sick all the time and in 2018 his heart stopped at home and his defibrillator started his heart again and he was rushed to the hospital where they performed life saving measures so he could be transferred to UCSF in San Francisco where he was told if he didn’t get a LVAD he would not live and was told he needed a heart transplant. On September 19, 2018 he had major open heart surgery where they put a LVAD in. After that he had more 6 more surgeries do to complications and it took almost a year of rehab to start feeling good again but he still need’s a heart transplant and he was put on the transplant list. Most recently he was advised with everything going on in the world lately with the coronavirus people were opting out of doing transplant do to concerns of infection of compromised immune system that would happen after transplant and he elected to move forward with transplant with great trust of his team and by doing this has moved him up farther on the transplant list. Also he was just informed he’s been informed he’s now moved up to status 3 on the transplant list do to an infection from his LVAD. In order for him to get his heart transplant after he get’s released from the hospital he has to stay at a after care house for 6 weeks next to the hospital cause he’ll have doctor appointments everyday and if god forbid anything happens he’s close to UCSF. Unfortunately his insurance doesn’t cover the cost of this house. UCSF won’t do the transplant if he can’t stay at this house. He’s a single father with 3 kids and sole custody and the cost of this after care is $8-$10,000 anything will help to help cover the cost. Thank you
