No mother plans to bury or live without her child.
Tragically, in the early morning of Sunday August 9, 2020 17 year old father Christopher Brown was killed during a mass shooting in Southeast Washington, DC. Christopher’s mother. Artecka Brown’s face lights up as she explains just how magnetic her son (whom she affectionately calls “Popi”) was. People were drawn to Popi. So many people knew and loved him. Popi was also a wonderful father to his son, who will now have to grow up without his father.
His loss is being deeply felt by many people. This loss was sudden and unexpected and the family is in need of financial support as they grieve and move through the trauma of such a tragic event. Black Lives Matter DC created this fundraiser at the request of the family. 100% of the (non-tax deductible) funds raised here will be given directly to Christopher’s family. The money raised will help with costs associated with planning for his funeral, offsetting the cost of transportation, food, and other daily expenses. In addition to those immediate needs, financial support for Christopher's son is very much needed now and as he grows. We believe the community can join together to provide him the care and support Christopher no longer can.
The family would like to also send their love and support to the other victims of the shooting and their families. They strongly encourage those traumatized and dealing with the very real impact of such a violent event to seek support. Talk to someone.
