12yo walks 500 miles for her dad post stroke rehab

Hola, Buenos Dias, Dzień Dobry, Hello, 你好、 こんにちは, Здравствуйте Dear readers, Here we have another Camino tale, one of many to be found. This particular saga involves me, my mum Magda, my dog Luna and beloved dad Marek. I’m doing it to fund 5 weeks or more of the best post stroke rehabilitation for my dad at the Raphael hospital in Kent, UK or similar alternative centre ( where one week costs ~ £4000). My name is Nela, I’m 12yo. At the moment I’m taking upon the Camino challenge. It’s 500 miles of magical French route from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela. ❤️ It all started from a dream, when my parents wanted to take me and my sister Julia to walk the French Camino Route together. Unfortunately, a year ago my dad suffered a catastrophic stroke and he’s in the rehab units since then. He can’t make this route with us, he can’t even speak, read or walk. He spent 6 months in a wonderful Queen Square Neuro Rehab centre but due to the founding reasons he was moved to a different unit, which can’t offer him as much rehab as he needs ( just 30 minutes of physio daily which is not enough for him to progress). There is one place - a Raphael Centre close to London - which is ideal for him. It’s probably the only one in the UK which offers 7 days a week full post stroke rehabilitation for people like my dad. It was the no 1 place we wanted our dad to be moved to but due to ££££££ and other people decisions it was out of our range. Here I am, waking and cycling the whole 791km pilgrim route with a hope and strength of myself, my mum, my best dog in the world and all the people we meet. Together, with your help, we can do it. We can support my dad at the most difficult journey he’s taking now. I think that comparing to his struggles my 800km route is easy. We are almost in the middle of the way , ( started on 29th of July) having 437km more to go. I had already 2 accidents and hundreds of magical moments. Days full of difficulty and blessings. No matter how hard it is one thing is for sure, every day here we experience Camino Miracles. As for my dad, we believe that giving him a chance to experience the best approach for his rehab can increase his chance to recovery. Everyday I’m looking forward seeing him coming back home. We need him and he needs us. We are not sure what future will bring but my mum doesn’t want daddy to stay at the hospital forever, no matter how hard it might be. She wants to build a one level house, surrounded by nature, fully disabled friendly, for all of us to be together. She said she would love to host other disabled people on their journey, passing by our home. It’s a dream as we don’t have funds for it yet but I learnt already that with hard work dreams come true. If you believe it all makes sense please support us and embark in this amazing journey. I will post pictures and daily journal here. I hope you will love it, as I do. With love, Nela
