My name is Tara, and I’m David’s older sister. David has been in construction since high school and has always worked hard, often on his feet for long hours. He currently works at Residential Elevators in the cab shop, spending about 11 hours a day on a concrete floor. A few weeks ago, he developed an ulcer on the bottom of his right foot. Without insurance or time off, he put off going to the doctor—and the ulcer got infected. This past Saturday, it worsened quickly. By Monday, he was in the ER and had to undergo emergency surgery to amputate his 2nd and 3rd toes.
David has always been the kind of person who steps up when others are in need. After our sister Lora passed away, David took in her children, Jakeb and Rowen, and raised them as his own for six years while their father was unavailable. Lora would be so proud of the man he is. He’s never asked for help, but right now, he truly needs it.
From our mom:
Almost a year ago, David almost lost his leg—and his life—after getting a dangerous bacterial infection from the water at Wakulla Beach. A wonderful surgeon saved his leg and his life, and he spent six weeks in rehab recovering. Now, he’s facing another difficult setback. His surgeon has told him he has to stay off his foot for a long time to heal properly. Since his job requires him to be on his feet all day, he can’t work—and right now, he has no paycheck, no insurance, and no way to cover his bills, rent, or food.
Tara (his sister) has started a GoFundMe to help him through this time. We don’t know how long recovery will take—possibly six months or more—and he likely won’t qualify for short-term disability. Anything you can give, even just a few dollars, will help tremendously. We know times are tough for everyone, but if you’re able, please consider helping David. God bless you, and please keep him in your prayers. We are so thankful he’s still with us, even though we’re grieving the loss of his two little toes. As his mama, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
