Help My Family Rebuild Their Home

Imagine having everything you worked hard for your whole life taken from you... twice.

Back in 2014, my family was forced to leave my childhood home in Donetsk (eastern Ukraine) because the city got taken over by Pro-Russian separatists. They were forced out to rebuild, and everything they worked for was left behind. After a while, my parents were able to settle in a small town called Irpin' located in the suburbs of Kyiv. They finally felt like they had a home again, until March of this year when, once again, Russia came to Ukraine and took away their peace. Irpin' was occupied for a month and it was one of the scariest times for me and my family. At that time we could barely keep in touch, I wouldn't hear from them for days and all I could see and hear were news about shellings, killings, air-raids, and shootings while desperately trying to stay calm and not think of the worst-case scenario.

Luckily, my family was able to survive the occupation but unfortunately, the building they live in got affected during one of the many shelling episodes. The roof, as well as the upper floor, got completely destroyed. They are currently using tarps as a temporary solution to protect the building and their apartment from being flooded and destroyed further. Due to rainfall, the condition of the building is rapidly deteriorating and there is a high risk of complete destruction of the building.

In order for them to start rebuilding, they will need at least $50,000. Currently, there is no help coming from the Ukrainian government so my family along with other tenants are trying to raise money to start restoring and building a new roof.
