There comes a point in life or in a series of events that you have to swallow your pride and ask for help... This is that point in life for us.
October 2012, Carson's first seizure, is when our lives changed forever. At 21 months old he suffered a weeklong hospital stay due to a grand mal seizure and has been on an increasing amount of medication with minimal results since. This began the last 3 years of finding answers to allow Carson to have as normal of a life as possible.
On the outside looking in, Carson is a 5 year old boy who loves drawing pictures, memorizing everyone's favorite colors, making paper airplanes, and getting as dirty as he possibly can. However, in these last 3 years he's had 4 week-long stays in the hospital, multiple MRI's, EEg's, numerous doctors appointments, and countless IV's... more than any normal 5 year old should. Despite all of this, he's the one that brings up everyone's morale and makes light of an otherwise tough situation.
Carson's diagnosis is a deformation in the left temporal lobe called cortical dysplasia, which unfortunately is a drug resistant condition resulting in surgery with most cases.
As a family, we've met with multiple neurologists and neurosurgeons in order to gain opinions as to what surgery is best to remove the smallest amount of brain matter as possible . This last month, we set a surgery date of August 4th, 2016 at Seattle Children's Hospital with Dr. Ojemann. Carson will begin with a sedated fMRI, followed by a 3 hour long surgery, followed by staying in the PICU for recovery.
The purpose of this page is to raise awareness of Carsons situation to everyone who loves and adores our little boy, as many know the trials and tribulations we have had the last few years. With piling medical bills from the last few years, it's hard to know where or how to budget for his upcoming brain surgery, which is why we ask for your support. All donations will be put towards Carsons medical bills for his surgery to allow him to be the normal 5 year old boy he deserves to be.
