Try to describe Bethany Demark Zimpel in one word. It’s almost impossible. The best I can do is: giver. Bethany is a giver from the heart. I have never met a more selfless woman in my whole life. If I could go into detail I would call Bethany kind, giving, relentless, determined, ambitious, and all around a loving; sweet woman. Bethany suffers from a rare Neurological condition that causes her extreme pain and is highly debilitating. Being disabled myself, I hold this woman in very high regard. I have never in my life come across a more giving person. It’s time for us to give to the giver!!!
The giver:
To present voluntarily and without expecting compensation; to hand to someone; to place in someone's care.
This woman deserves an award. More importantly, Bethany is currently undergoing medical care with a Neurologist and a Pain Management. This is a very expensive undertaking, and to the point she is not sure she can continue. Bethany has given to so many; her giving is endless. Prior to her disability she was a loving care giver. Bethany recently led an aggressive fundraiser for her baby nephew Arlo who is suffering a rare form of cancer. Can you imagine being in debilitating pain and to work for months, and put hours upon hours of labor into helping one you love? That is Bethany and that is what she does. She hosts a yearly fundraiser aiding the Wisconsin Humane Society, in remembrance of her dearly adopted dog Lucy. Bethany also volunteers religiously at the Wisconsin Humane Society. I cannot begin to explain the hours, physical effort and pure will that she pours into her giving while in pain. Of those reading this, I know that you feel the same as I do. She is one of the kindest, most giving people I’ve ever met. I had the privilege of going to high school with her and later meeting up on Facebook. I am a proud member of herself made group, the “Happiness Club”. That word says it all. Bethany believes in living happy, no matter what the good Lord has given us. Her cup is always half full. You don’t hear her complain. What you hear is a great woman saying, what can I do to help those in need? She is the first to say no, please, don’t do this…others need it more. I disagree. Bethany is finding pain relief in her treatments, but will not be able to continue on a single month due to the cost. This is unacceptable as a society. Disability is meant for people like Bethany, but still has not been able to obtain. Again, being disabled myself I am in owe of her fight, determination and the pure heart of gold that drives her to help others. This woman lives to help others and not take any pity on herself. She has taught me so much. As mentioned, she accomplished a successful fundraiser for her nephew Arlo to aid in his cancer recover and organ transplant at a mere baby’s age. She spends months preparing for her annual Human Society Benefit in honor of the beautiful Lucy. Every day, every month, she spends what little energy she has hosting the Happiness Club, which gives to local charities. She is also an amazing pet sitter, making a meager wage taking care of our beloved pets, such as my own. She is also a pet foster for the Humane Society, along with her loving husband Darin. Bethany has touched my life in such a special way. She gives me inspiration. I know the pain she lives with, and frankly I don’t know how she does it. Pure heart, perhaps an angel? An angel in my eyes. To those that know her, I am sure you are reading this and agreeing with every word I am saying. To those that don’t, please be thankful for a selfless woman who gives to everyone in need. Local charities, a foster mom (and dad Darin) to animals in need of adoptions, continual giving to our local charities in need…and when the going gets tough, such as in the case of little Arlo; a loving Aunt willing to do anything to help save his life. Bethany deserves to have continual treatment. She is going to keep going, giving everything she has until her body gives out. This is not fair. This wonderful woman deserves the medical care she needs. Why deny that to such a giving, amazing woman??? If you know her like I do; you won’t. I know the financial future looks grim for her household. Her volunteer work does not pay, and her pet sitting services are far too generous, but that is who she is. This woman deserves to receive continued treatment by her Pain Management Specialist and other specialists. To a woman who has given so much to society; to our stray animals; to her loved ones and friends; to anyone in need. Isn’t it time we gave back to the Giver? I do, and I hope you will join me. I won’t give up until we met or exceed our goal…just as Bethany taught me. The photo of her is a courageous act of her shaving her head in support for Arlo, the nephew mentioned above…along with Darin, her loving husband who did the same. A special shout out to Darin who works very hard and helps supports all of their mutual causes. Your friends and family love you.
