My name is Sylvia, and I am a 19-year-old transgender girl.
People used to call me Matthew. I went to work. I went to class. I lived a normal teenage life.
And at the end of the day, I would cry myself to sleep, wishing that I was Sylvia. This went on for months. Months became years. I suffered quietly.
Finally, seven months ago, I came out as transgender to my parents.
They told me that I had turned my back to God. They told me that I had betrayed them. And worst of all, they told me I wasn't going to transition for as long as I was living under their roof. They made sure I felt like an abomination.
So, five months ago, I ran away.
I've been homeless ever since, and I haven't been able to find a reliable living situation because of a lack of resources. My job isn't enough to support me.
My goal is to raise $6,000 to fund a rent deposit, sustain a shared living space, support my transition, and keep me on my feet as I try to find a steady source of income.
I am currently bunking with a friend, and if I reach my goal, I'll be able to become their roommate by the end of summer.
Every little bit helps. Just the tiniest bit of gratuitiy goes to my groceries, my medical needs, my commute to work. I only wish to begin living my life.
With love,
Sylvia
