Coral Reef Marine Conservation Trip

I am Helen, Follower of Dreams ;) On January 7th, I will be embarking on the dream of a lifetime, getting certified as a Coral Reef Research Diver. I already have my PADI open water and advanced open water certificates. When I was 17 I spent most of my life savings thus far to travel to Hawaii and learn to dive. This is still a passion of mine, but it is an expensive hobby. By completing this internship I will be well on my way to pursuing scuba diving as a career and no longer having to pay, but rather getting paid, to dive.
I am raising money to go on a six month Marine Conservation intership in Mexico. At the end of it I will have earned my Rescue Diver certification, PADI Diver Master certification, and a Coral Reef Research Diver distinctive specialty. I will also receive intensive career training that will be invaluable when pursuing a future career with my underwater obsession!
The money is as follows:
- $8,995 actual program fees
- $2,205 reserved for pre-departure expenses and expenses while I am there (medical examination, phone cards, internet, bottled water, bus rides, taxis, etc)
- $900 gear (wetsuit, dive computer, dive knife, fins, logbook, inflatable buoy, etc)
The money may seem like a lot, but the program fees cover in depth training, one-on-one mentorship, dive certifications, use of O2 tanks, and of course housing for six months. The gear itself I can use for many years after the program is over. And all I'm asking from you is a small donation...don't worry about the whole ten grand, just worry about your ten dollars! Trust me, it will add up :) Any and all donations will be so appreciated, and you'll be helping me pursue my goals as well as save the coral reefs!

*A little incentive for you: To anyone who donates $25 or more, I will personally send you a digital copy of an underwater photo taken with an underwater camera on one of my dives when I will be underwater!!!! Under the sea....under the sea....I will be diving off a of nature reserve in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.....so the places I will dive (and take pictures) are not open to tourists or the public. This means two things..one is that you can't just fly to Mexico and take the pictures yourself, and two is that this area of the reef is more "untouched" and therefore will have a lot more action going on :) Check out my rewards levels as I think of other incentives :)
