Help B.J. in Seattle/Chicago
Hello kind folk!
My name is B.J. Tindal, and I'm a graduating senior from Oberlin College. I am a playwright, director, and performance poet about to embark on a very exciting journey of "news things and new places" in the next 6 months.
In June, I will be going to Seattle to be a part of Intiman Theater Festival's Emerging Artist Program (IEAP). What does this mean? I get to take a series of workshops and master classes from professional theater artists (directors, actors, and playwrights alike) in Seattle for six weeks! I will be working as an Assistant Director on a play by Adrienne Kennedy. The goal of IEAP is to introduce young theater artists to a community of working professionals in order to help transition into a sustainable model of doing art for a living. The program runs from June 27th-August 12th, and is completely free, though I will need a way to afford housing and transportation to and around Seattle.
In September, I will be startng my first year in a two year Graduate program at Northwestern University. I've been accepted into the School of Communication's Writing for the Screen and Stage MFA on a full tuition Scholarship, and will be living in or around Chicago for the following two years.
Long story short, I get to keep making art and learning how to do it in a way that works for me which is a huge honor! It is also a relatively expensive honor. I will be trying to live in and navigate two cities that I have never been to within a few months of each other, while also trying to write, while also trying to pay off the debt I've built up at Oberlin, while also trying to eat more than a poptart a day (maybe TWO poptarts!)
Any support that you can offer is greatly appreciated, even if it is just sharing this post! Any donation would go directly towards:
- Initial transportation to Seattle/Chicago
-Transportation to and from the program in Seattle
-Housing and food in both cities
Thank you SO much!
