My name is Leila Hobbs...

Here is my story:

On May 11th, 2016 @ 7:27am I made my unexpected premature entry into this world. My mommy was only 28weeks and I wasn't due until July 29th. Everything happened so quickly that my mommy delivered me by herself on the bedroom floor. My daddy, LaTavis Hobbs, had just left the house to head to ADS but luckily my mom was calm enough to call him and 911. The ambulance and my dad arrived at the house about 10 minutes later. Unfortunately, my umbilical cord snapped so I was being deprived of oxygen and losing blood every moment that passed. They rushed me and mommy to Norfolk General Hospital. As soon as we arrived they hooked me up to all types of machines, put me in an incubator and rushed me next door to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. My mommy was doing fine but I wasn't very well.

The very 1st week I developed a staph infection and a viral infection due to me not being born in a "sterile" environment. The infection spread to my face, eyes, back and left arm. During routine test, the doctors discovered a severe brain bleed and massive holes in my brain. With me being so small the doctors had to wait until I was bigger before they could tell my parents my prognosis.

Now let's fast forward time, it's September 11th and I am officially 4 months old. CHKD is still my home but I'm a big girl now. I'm out of my incubator and in a crib. The infection left my skin pigmented but I'm as cute as can be. A few weeks ago my doctors said I was finally big enough for an MRI. Well my results came back and the doctors told my mommy and daddy that I have very severe brain damage. I have very little brain matter remaining and that I have severe Cerebral Palsy. They said I will not live to see my 1st birthday and more likely won't even make it to Christmas.

My parents have been very strong. They go to work and take care of my siblings as if everything is ok. I know they can't afford to miss work but they make sure they attend every meeting at the hospital, see me regularly and make me feel so loved. My parents never gave up on me so I continue to fight and defy the odds. Please keep me in your hearts and prayers! Thanks
