With tremendous sadness the Department of Corrections has lost an extraordinary member of our NDOC family.

Hector Gutierrez passed on August 2, 2020 at the age of 50 from complications related to COVID-19.  He had been fighting the courageous fight against COVID-19 Virus since the 4th of July weekend.

Many of you may know him from his time with CenturyLink when he was servicing the inmate phones at DOC facilities. Many others know him as the” MIS Phone Guy” handling telecommunications service needs for the Department’s many facilities.

If you had the good fortune to have met or had dealings with Hector, you would not forget his gregarious nature and extraordinary work ethic. Nor his commitment to making sure you received excellent service.

The grief and confusion we are feeling at this time are small in comparison to what his wife and children must be feeling.  Our thoughts and well wishes go out to his family.

Hector is survived by his wife Tisa and their sons Isaiah 6, Ezequiel 14, Hector Jr. 16 and Gregory 28
