Climbin' for Simon
Donation protected
I am organising this hike in memory of my brother Simon who died suddenly and unexpectedly in the middle of March; to raise awareness of PTSD and depression and to help set up trust funds for his children.
Simon was a much loved son, brother, husband and father who had previously served in the RAF Regiment, completing one tour of Iraq and two tours of Afghanistan. On leaving the Regiment in 2014, Simon had a tough time. A promised job didn't materialise fully and sadly his marriage broke down in early 2015. Simon formed a new relationship with Jade but she was then diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer. Despite this awful prognosis they were very happy together.
Jade sadly lost her battle with cancer in February 2016. She was only 22 and left behind a son, Oscar who is now 3. Simon was devastated and in the coming weeks began preparations to do a sponsored hike in memory of Jade to raise some money for Oscar. This hike was to be the 3 Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowden in 24 hours), which he had arranged to do with his elder brother Tom and his ex RAF mate Joe. Tragically, Simon never got the chance to complete this walk as he took his own life in March 2016 leaving behind two young sons, Theo (6) and Reuben (1) from his marriage to Kayleigh. Simon was 30.
Simon and Jade weren’t wealthy and other than a few memories and some mementos, their children have been left with very little. Joe and I decided, as a tribute to Simon we would like to continue with the 3 Peaks Challenge, and use it to raise funds for all three children.
The hike will take place on the weekend of the 18th/19th June, when Joe and I will be joined and supported by friends and family. Your donation will be put into three separate funds for the children to access when they are older. Please help create a legacy that would have made their parents proud.
Thank you for your support.
