Darby Needs Your Help!

On Sunday evening, May 8th, Kelli Coleman arrived home to discover Darby, her beautiful 6 year old Newfoundland, listless and not moving.  Upon further investigation, Kelli quickly determined that Darby had consumed a very large quantity of sugar free gum containing the ingredient Xylitol. As most of you know, Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs with the potential to cause severe liver damage...Rather than self-diagnosing or attempting to treat, panicked, terrified and running on pure adrenaline, Kelli scooped up Darby and headed straight to the Pet ER! As soon as they arrived, Darby's glucose levels were checked and they were at an alarming low of 30. Darby was then admitted for a  three-day stay in order for liver functions to be checked around the clock and to observe the mass in her stomach.

Early this morning, Kelli learned that Darby would not eat, her glucose levels would not stabilize and her liver and protein numbers were in the unsatisfactory range.  Kelli rushed back to the hospital with McDonald's chicken sandwiches and hamburgers in an effort to entice Darby to eat....She nibbled at a burger, but that was it and it was then that Kelli received the devastating news that Darby is in early stages of liver failure. Treatment will consist of 5 units of plasma with frequent blood work checks to see how she responds. The good news is that there is no sign of internal bleeding and Darby has not experienced any seizures (typical of extremely low glucose levels).

Kelli is *terrified* at the idea of losing Darby!! This is her heart dog, her baby....and like all of us, wants to give Darby every possible chance out there for recovery. Her initial costs for admitting Darby on Sunday night was $3,200 for a 72-hour stay.  Add to that the $360.00 per plasma unit (she will need at the very least 5) with miscellaneous extraneous costs continually mounting...the costs are staggering!

Do you have it in your help to help Darby?  Any donation will be truly appreciated and will go a long ways towards providing Darby the medical care she so desperately needs. Thank you for reading this and thank you in advance for supporting Kelli in her hour of need!
