Hi everyone! I'm Kathy Amezcua from Belmont, CA. Some of you may know my parents, Sandy Lawson and Frank Gutowski. They have been owners of weeks 37, 38 and 39 since 1992. I personally lived at CS in 2009 for a year while I looked for a house in PV. The employees here are like family to me.
This fundraiser was created in response to the huge amount of members with the common desire of joining together to help the Costa Sur employees, our family, during this critical time. Our goal is to raise funds for all employees of Costa Sur that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The situation here a Costa Sur is critical!! There are only around 50 employees working at the hotel. The rest of the employees are at home, laid-off, and receiving about 50% of there normal pay. They are currently at about 4% capacity (8 rooms occupied) and expect to be at an average of 8-10% in August and September. There are no owners using their weeks at the hotel, only Mexican nationals that have purchased package deals from the internet. That means virtually no tips and we all know they live off of our tips, not the 104 pesos ($4.65 USD) they are paid a DAY by the hotel.
The donations are being distributed equally among the 116 employees in hopes of replacing a portion of what they would have made if they were working, so they are able to pay for their basic necessities; rent/mortgage, utilities, food, etc. The employees, our family, that wait on us hand and foot and cater to our every whim, need our help.
Anything you are able contribute will help!
My husband and I are working closely with Fernando from reception, Veronica from member services, Juan Quintero from security and Ludva from housekeeping. Round 1 of donations was distributed on 5/6/2020 and was a total of $36,132 dollars. Round 2 was distributed on 6/3/2020 and was a total of $18,013. We are hoping to reach at least $40,000 in donations for round 3.
The distributions will be made on August 19th at a predetermined site. We distribute individual envelopes to each employee and each employee signs and dates our journal showing how much they received. We take pictures of their ID cards and photo documentation of the distributions.
I am attempting to be as transparent as possible. If anyone has any concerns or suggestions, please let me know. I will keep receipts for all bank transfers, transactions and distributions. Plus I have the amazing Costa Sur team and they have come up with an absolutely seamless process that documents every step of the process.
The CS member page on Shutterfly has a ton of pictures from our first and second distributions along with a detailed account of the process.
