Kidney Donation Fundraiser
Donation protected
If you missed my last FaceBook post, I have the amazing opportunity to donate one of my kidneys to my sweet sister-in-law Jasmine Antonelli. Jasmine is in end-stage renal failure and as a result is on dialysis. Jasmine is such a kind-hearted human being and I am determined to do what I can to see her well. With both of us being extremely eager to have the operation completed and to move on to the healing process I accepted the soonest surgery date possible. We are now booked for surgery on August 20th at 5:30 AM! This is great news but also leaves us with very limited time to fundraise since we will literally be in surgery in 21 days. I would have preferred to fundraise through the National Foundation for Transplant but due to the time crunch, I am unsure if everything will be approved in time so here we are on gofundme. Fortunately, Jasmine's insurance covers the medical expenses for my end of the surgery. She has a car that we can use and a guest bedroom to accommodate us. We are very lucky to have our flights to and from Florida covered by flyer miles provided by her sister Avid and her sister's boyfriend Andrew. What we are trying to raise money for are expenses such as, emergencies, food, gas, and airfare for my mother-in-law Shanon who has so generously offered to care for our three children while we are away. We are planning to be in Florida for a minimum of 19 days but we must go prepared for the chance that healing does not go as planned and I am not given the okay to fly after my mandatory 2-week mark. We have also been advised that we may need to be prepared to stay in Florida longer than expected due to Hurricane season. We are also hoping to leave Shanon with resources to take care of the children and for emergencies while we are away. Devon and I will also be making many trips back and forth from Jasmine's house to the hospital in Tampa. This is an hour commute one way. Although our flights are covered as of now if the transplant team decides it is in my best interest to stay in Florida longer we may have to purchase our tickets home out of pocket to avoid flights home that require many stops and connecting flights seeing as I will still be in the process of healing at that point. Many people experience a quick and smooth road to recovery following kidney donation. However, as I have been reminded many times we must prepare for things to not go as planned. Any donations that are not used will be donated to the National Foundation for Transplant. We appreciate any and all donations and are so incredibly thankful for your support in making this surgery happen! Even if you are unable to donate at this time we greatly appreciate being in your positive thoughts and prayers! Thank you!
