Lori was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. It has spread to her tongue and lymph nodes in her neck. Surgery is scheduled for May 16. They will remove the part of her tongue with the cancer and lymph nodes in her neck. They will then take tissue and vessels from her wrist to reconstruct her tongue and a skin graft from her thigh to put on her wrist. She will have a temporary trach that will hopefully be removed before leaving the hospital. She will also have a feeding tube. Her hospital stay will be one week with two days being in ICU. She will have home health and speech therapy. She will have to learn how to talk and swallow again. 6-8 weeks after surgery she will begin chemotherapy and radiation. Her doctor says this entire process will take at least 6 months.
After today, Lori no longer has a job. She is going to have lots of medical expenses on top of her normal expenses.
Lori has dedicated her life to helping others. She is one of the most loving and compassionate people I know. Throughout this process she has had constant concern and prayer for those around her and how this is affecting them.
I ask (beg) that anyone that can help to do so.
