For those of you who don't know, my name is Jeremy Edgar Rivera. I am a 21 year old, math tutor working for the Suffolk County Community College on the Ammerman Campus in Student Support Services. I also tutor in Mythology and the Holocaust, but math is my go to. My major is Liberal Arts: Mathematical Emphasis, yet I am still uncertain as to what I would like to pursue. Math has always been a strength for me and I always have enjoyed teaching, but recently I've found myself at a crossroad. I am a Christian, and recently this past year, God has really been leading me to do more. I have become one of the officers of the BASIC (Brothers And Sisters In Christ) club on my campus, I've become more involved in a few Christian Young Adult Groups, and I'm currently in the process of finding a home church for myself to really become involved in. But now I feel led to be part of Missions and helping others since I am more fortunate. I find myself always saying "What can I do?, How can I be a helping hand in this person's life?, What can I offer that will help them?" And I find that the issue here isn't the answers to the question but the fact that they're are asked without the incentive to act upon them. So now here I am really doing something and BASIC is actually planning to go to Mexico! (http://thebasicsite.org/events/mexico/). If you have or haven't checked out what the trip entails it involved providing basic medical needs to those who are poor and destitute. All funds will head towards me being able to attend the trip and any additional funds will be used towards helping those who are receiving the health care. The funds are needed before December, however at least $1200 is needed by August 12th. The exact date isn't fully known for December but I will be informed as soon as possible. I find it so important that helping these people will really give them a chance, and a sense of hope despite their position.
