Hi...my name is Ken and I've started this fund for an amazing woman, my mother in law Kathy Raney. Kathy was recently diagnosed with Lung Cancer.
The news of her diagnosis was a blow to us all. She has already been through so much and yet has kept on smiling and caring for everyone else around her. Kathy worked for many years in a professional capacity helping others. She assisted families of children with special needs and disabilities, served as a rape response worker and coordinated services for senior citizens. On a personal level, Kathy is always the first to step up in any way she can for a friend in need. Now she is the one who needs our help.
We live in Las Vegas but she needed to go for surgery at UCLA in order to receive the best care possible. The surgeon took out a large portion of one lung to remove the cancer and keep it from spreading. She will need to stay in the L.A. area for at least two weeks after the surgery for monitoring and follow up. Of course there will also be follow up visits to UCLA in the months after surgery as well.
As you can imagine, the cost of all of this adds up very fast. Between medical treatments, travel back and forth to L.A., hotel stays and numerous other expenses, the bills are already piling up. Cancer is not fun, and it’s not cheap. The last thing she should be worrying about at this time is financial stressors. Kathy needs to focus on one thing and one thing only, getting well!
Any and all donations would be so greatly appreciated. Also please send prayers, well wishes and good thoughts her way as she continues this battle. Please pass this page on to your friends and family, as well. Let’s show this amazing and loving partner, mother, grandmother and friend just how much she is loved. Thank you so much!
Update 5/18- Kathy's surgery was successful yesterday. She is doing well in recovery. She's even up and walking around some and joking around with the staff. Thankfully everything has gone well so far. When she is discharged, Kathy will be staying at a hotel as they continue to monitor her. Laurie checked into the hotel today and discovered that they are currently remodeling. With all of the dust and fumes in the air it would be best for her to find new accommodations. Laurie is once again scrambling around trying to find a new place, which will most likely be more expensive. Once again...any donation at this time would be greatly appreciated!
