Hey guys, as you know Sammy has been having a bit of a rough go lately, and we were hoping to organise a night for him where we can all get together, have a few beers, and help him out a little. As most of you know, Sam has been through a life changing operation, and has found out his insurance company won’t pay out for lost wages during his lengthy rehab.
A little bit about Sam. He is an extremely gifted footballer, who has played for a rake of clubs throughout Geelong’s football leagues and currently plays for the Burleigh Bombers. He moved up to the Gold Coast to start up his own building business, and has been going from strength to strength. In 2014, we lost our father to a rare and aggressive form of stomach cancer caused by a defective gene known as the CDH1, where he then found out, he also tested positive for the same gene. This meant that Sam had an extremely high chance of developing the same cancer. Last year Sam opted to have surgery to be proactive and take the doctors recommendation of getting a Gastrectomy (stomach removal). Going through the right avenues he made sure everything was in place in regards to work, and commenced this arduous journey.
He has been in and out of hospital since his operation in Dec 2015, but through sheer determination he got himself back, and played his first game for Burleigh last week. Sam has been denied any payments from his insurance company and is not eligible for any government assistance. He has been getting by from his wonderful girlfriend Ally, as well as help from the rest of his family. I wanted to do something for Sam to take the worry and stress off him and mum.
