Friends Helping Friends
Son, brother, uncle and friend – giver of so much to so many, is now in need of your help! Steve W. Engholm, who is a 1977 graduate of Mount Baker High School, needs a kidney transplant. Steve was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 21 and has endured more than 35 years of his body being weakened from this disease to the point of having to have daily dialysis in his home for 14 hours each session. In addition to this, Steve suffered a stroke five years ago and has struggled to find his way to a “new normal” for his life.
Unfortunately, due to the severity of the stroke Steve was forced to retire from a job he truly loved. Steve worked at the Lynden Tribune for over 17 years, beginning as a flyer stuffer and courier and advancing to become the manager on the print side of the business. The “Trib” was a job he loved and now he misses, especially the camaraderie with his co-workers. Steve’s only income has been and will continue to be his social security. He NEVER complains about his situation – he remains positive and grateful for what he has. He resides in his cute little house on the river and takes great pride in caring for his home and yard.
Steve’s kidney transplant date is rapidly approaching and he needs some help with the financial aspect… Medicare will cover the transplant but the care after the surgery is not covered and very expensive. Steve has a rare blood type and none of us match, so Janis is donating her kidney to another recipient in the transfer program and this will aid Steve in receiving a donor’s kidney much more quickly. Terri is providing care for him once he returns home. Jerry and Greg are pitching in as well.
Steve has such a kind and generous soul and would do anything for anyone. He would never ask for help on his own, so his family is asking for him. Every dollar that people can give will be so needed and appreciated! Please pray about this and give what you can – it would mean so very much!
Thank you in advance for helping Steve keep on keeping on and be free from dialysis!!!
