Hello, my name is Joseph Clem and I am setting up this page to help my mother, Maria Clem to help her fight Cancer.
The week of July 25, she started feeling funny. She was experiencing headaches, dizzyness, lightheadness and some memory issues. She chalked it up to being tired, working and the heat. She went about her week, worked and we went to the Sox game that tuesday. On Friday July 29, she sat down to do some bills after work and as soon as she started, she could not remember what she was doing. We brought her into the emergency room at Saint V's in Worcester. She was brought straight into an exam room. She was taken to received a CT scan. When the results came back it was quite shocking. They had found a mass and swelling in the left rear area of her brain. As the night went on her memory was getting worse and worse. She could not remember where she was, what day it was, or going to the Red Sox game earlier in the week. They started her on steriods and anti seuizure medications as a precaution till they understood what was going on. She was admitted into the hospital for observation and more testing. Over a week later and a battery of testing later including, more CT scans, multiple MRI's, blood work and a brain biopsy we were all very nervous for the results. Once all the testing was done, and a couple days later we finally had an answer. Maria was diagnosed with Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma. Its a high grade, Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The tumor is located deep within the left rear area of her brain within the connections of the left and right hemispheres of her brain. Its placement is very close to her optic nerves which is causing her some vision problems. The location makes it an inoperable. She has now seen doctors at Dana Farber and Brigham and Womens. She has had a lumbar puncture, more blood work, seen an opthamologist As of August 23rd, she started her first round of high intensitity chemotherapy. As of now, we are still working on what the full plan of treatment is. She is looking at high intensity chemotherapy till Thanksgiving. She is also being considered for a research study involving stem cells.
Medical bills are already starting to pile up. While trying to get her on short term disability, day to day bills are starting to pile up too. This is causing her to start to worry about finances. She really does not need to be doing that, she needs to focus on her kicking cancer's butt.
My sister, family and I want to try to help her as much as we can. Any donation will help Maria and her family get through this difficult time. She has a very long road to recovery ahead of her and what ever I can do to help my mom, I will try my best.
Thank you all for considering donating and/or donating to help Maria out. It means the world to all of us.
