Dear friends and family,
For many years I have dreamed of embarking on a medical mission and the time has arrived, along with the perfect opportunity. I am writing because I have decided to participate in my first medical mission trip, and I would love to have your support. I will be serving with Midwives for Haiti for two weeks this November, caring for pregnant women in this deeply impoverished nation. The mission is being organized by One Nurse At A Time; a non-profit run by one of my colleagues. Midwives of Haiti, strives to help nurses make volunteerism a part of their careers.
I have helped women and families through this process now for over sixteen years and am now ready to branch out and broaden my awareness both medically, culturally and spiritually through volunteering. What better way to do this than to help a nation where birth is extremely high risk.

– Haiti is the most dangerous country in the Western hemisphere to give birth. Most maternal deaths are caused by eclampsia, sepsis, and postpartum hemorrhage – which means that most of these deaths are preventable with the knowledge and skills that I am fortunate to have. I want to be a small ripple in the world and welcome the opportunity to learn about the world to better myself while helping women and families along the way.
My fundraising needs:
As part of their program for first-mission nurses (which I am), One Nurse At A Time will contribute $500 towards the cost of this trip. The remainder I will cover out of my own pocket and any funds I can raise. Midwives for Haiti’s program fee is $1200 for two weeks - this covers our room and board, program materials, local transport, translators, and 24/7 support from their in-country staff. Additionally, a plane ticket to Haiti costs about $850. All generous donations will be used to cover my program fee and airfare, and anything I raise in addition will be donated directly to support Midwives for Haiti’s lifesaving work.
